All Saints Church Heritage Refurbishment
Halliday Clark Architects were appointed lead design team in securing HLF funding and to deliver an exciting heritage focused refurbishment of this Grade II* Listed church, All Saints, Ilkley, built on the ruins of a Roman Fort (an ancient scheduled monument).
The scheme also consist of a remodel of the adjacent Grade II listed Church House and a new welcoming link between the two as the new principle entrance and community annex.
The link was conceived to be a modern, fully glazed structure which lightly touches the site, preserving site archaeology and providing unbroken views throughout and providing inclusive access across the whole church level. Halliday Clark worked closely with the church and the principal contractor to ensure that local trades and materials were exclusively selected making this a truly community driven, 21st Century chapter to the churches long history.
The project received a Design & Conservation award from Ilkley Civic Society, which is the highest level of recognition given by the Civic Society.
The Civic Society was impressed at how the project has created a much more flexible space within the grade II listed church and an additional space and facilities in the link building. The quality of materials and workmanship much of it local was another positive feature. Interpretation and education also feature well in the project to create a much more useful facility for the community.
